          Shin To Give Keynote Address at Mississippi Communication Association Event

          Dr. Jae-Hwa ShinDr. Jae-Hwa Shin, a professor in The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) School of Communication, will give the keynote address at the Mississippi Communication Association’s annual conference in Jackson, Mississippi Feb. 14.      

          An expert in public relations, Dr. Shin joined the USM faculty in 2003 after earning a doctorate from the University of Missouri, Columbia. She previously was communications director at the Korea Economic Research Institute and the Center for Free Enterprise, affiliated with the Federation of Korean Industries which was founded in 1961 by multinational corporate members such as Samsung, LG, Hyundai, and other industry leaders in Seoul, Korea.

          “I’m honored to be selected keynote speaker for this event,” Dr. Shin said. “It is especially meaningful for me to share my experience and knowledge about the prospects for research and education, including those focusing on communication in general and public relations in particular.

          “The rise of new media environments has posed both opportunities and challenges to the way we interact in diverse socio-economic, political, and cultural settings, such as those represented in the state of Mississippi.”

          Dr. Shin’s research focuses on public relations from a strategic conflict management perspective across cultural settings in social media environments. She has published numerous journal articles and book chapters, and co-authored several books, including two widely used textbooks, Public Relations Today: Managing Conflict and Competition and Think: Public Relations; her upcoming publications include Public Relations Theory and Public Relations Strategies and Tactics. She is currently serving on the editorial board of Journal of Public Relations Research.
